Garuda Sculpture

Guruvayur Temple – A new bronze Garuda sculpture will soon replace the iconic cement sculpture that has stood for over half a century in front of Manjulal, symbolizing Guruvayur Temple. This new sculpture will be of the same size but made of bronze. To prepare for the installation, a granite platform will be constructed around the banyan tree for added support. Additionally, a decorative tower will be built in front of Manjulal. Necessary approvals for this project, including permissions from the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), have been obtained. Both projects are funded through devotees’ contributions.

The current Garuda sculpture has shown signs of wear, as reported by Malayala Manorama. The Devaswom Board discussed the replacement and contacted artisans to create the new bronze sculpture. The crafting, which began over a year ago, has recently been completed, with final finishing expected within three weeks. The construction of the granite platform for the sculpture will start within two weeks, according to Devaswom Board Chairman Dr. V.K. Vijayan. The old sculpture will be relocated to a suitable site.
