Heavy Rush at Guruvayur Temple For the past two days, Guruvayur Temple has been witnessing a heavy influx of devotees, particularly from Tamil Nadu, who have arrived to take advantage of the Diwali holiday season. Yesterday alone, the temple hosted an astounding 192 weddings, leading to significant congestion both within the temple complex and on the surrounding roads. Inner and outer ring roads around the temple area were heavily packed with vehicles, resulting in extensive traffic jams that affected the movement of both visitors and locals.
Heavy Rush at Guruvayur Temple During Diwali
Busy Rush at the Temple of Guruvayur Around Diwali Due to the limited availability of lodging, many devotees were forced to spend the night in the open areas of the temple’s courtyards. Due to the overcrowding, many devotees had to wait for hours before they could eventually have Lord Guruvayurappan’s darshan.
Despite the congestion, the temple’s offerings saw a substantial increase in revenue, reflecting the devotion of those present. Yesterday’s total income from offerings reached ₹84.33 lakh. The popular Ney Vilakku (ghee lamp) ritual, which allows devotees to bypass the regular queues, brought in ₹28.83 lakh in revenue. However, even those who opted for this priority offering faced long wait times due to the overwhelming crowd.
Other offerings, including Tulabharam (the traditional weight-based offering), generated ₹23 lakh, while Prasadam offerings such as the Palpayasam (milk dessert) and Neypayasam (ghee dessert) contributed an additional ₹9 lakh.
The weekend rush and ongoing festivities have undoubtedly amplified the spiritual vibrancy at Guruvayur, though the influx has also presented challenges in managing the flow of devotees and maintaining order on the roads. With high numbers of visitors expected to continue, authorities are likely to monitor the situation closely to help streamline traffic and improve the overall experience for devotees in the coming days.
This period of intense activity underscores the temple’s importance as a spiritual hub and a popular destination for rituals, weddings, and celebrations, especially during festive seasons.
