In preparation for the Sabarimala season, a meeting chaired by Guruvayur Municipal Chairman M. Krishnadas has led to decisions to provide improved facilities for devotees visiting the temple town. Key measures include expanding parking spaces and enhancing convenience for pilgrims.
Sabarimala Season New Facilities
- Parking Facilities: Additional parking will be made available. The Devaswom quarters area behind Panchajanyam will be converted into a parking ground, and a dedicated two-wheeler parking area will be set up by the municipality at the Ambadi parking ground near the Eastern Gate. Devaswom will arrange parking at three other temple entrances.
- Traffic Management: Street vendors on footpaths will be restricted, and the existing one-way system will remain in effect. During peak days, the police will decide on one-way restrictions for autos and two-wheelers to control traffic. Efforts will be made to reduce congestion around the Apsara Junction, and additional police officers will be requested to ensure the safety and security of visitors.
- Pilgrim Services: Starting November 16, a 24-hour first-aid center will operate near the municipal office to assist pilgrims. In alignment with environmental concerns, plastic bags and single-use containers will be prohibited.
- Bus Parking: To better accommodate tourist vehicles visiting Guruvayur, the existing bus stand will offer additional parking spaces. The Traffic Regulatory Authority has resolved to relocate bus parking for Kodungallur and Kunnamkulam buses to the West Gate bus stand. Currently, buses park at the municipal ground, but a meeting with bus owners will be called to finalize arrangements. Thrissur-bound buses will continue to park at the multi-level parking facility at the North Gate. This temporary relocation is due to ongoing construction work at the bus stand.
