How to Book Choroonu at Guruvayur Temple

You can book the Choroonu ceremony online or offline.

Option 1: Book Choroonu Online

Follow these steps to book Choroonu online:

  1. Visit the official website: https://guruvayurdevaswom.in

  2. Click on “Login” and register or log in using your mobile number.

  3. After login, go to “Other Services.

  4. Select “Annaprashan/Choroonu” from the list of offerings.

  5. Choose your preferred date and time slot.

  6. Enter child and parent details, upload ID proof if required.

  7. Proceed to payment and confirm the booking.

  8. You will receive a confirmation SMS and email with a reference number.

🔔 Note: Choroonu is typically performed for babies aged 5 months, 6 months, or 1 year.


Option 2: Book Choroonu Offline (Direct at Temple)

You can also walk in and book directly at the Guruvayur Temple Devaswom Counter:

  • Visit the temple early in the morning (preferably before 9:00 AM).

  • Head to the offering counter and request for Choroonu booking.

  • Provide the child’s name, birth details, and parent information.

  • Pay the offering fee (usually ₹100–₹200) and collect your token.

  • You will be guided to the Choroonu Mandapam when your turn arrives.

📍 Where is Choroonu Performed?

The ceremony is held daily at the Choroonu Hall, located on the first floor of the Old Ticket Counter Building inside the Guruvayur Temple premises.

    • Ekadasi (entire day)

🍲 Food Items for Choroonu

You do not need to bring food from home. All required items like:

  • Cooked rice

  • Payasam (rice with jaggery or sugar)

  • Banana

  • Plantain leaf

…are provided at the venue by the temple authorities. You just need to carry your ticket.


👶 How is the Ceremony Performed?

  • The baby sits on the lap of the father (or grandfather).

  • Dressed in traditional wear, the baby is gently fed rice, banana, and payasam from a plantain leaf.

  • This ritual marks the beginning of solid food for the child — performed with prayers and devotion.

  • After the ceremony, the family (parents and child) can enter the Nalambalam directly (bypassing the darshan queue) by showing the Choroonu ticket.
